We often hear how tough it can be to run a family business. And yes… it can be a challenge to keep everyone focused and marching to the same drumbeat. But, what I love most about family business is the “family” part.

There is nothing more rewarding than to work with family and friends.

Obviously we are in business to make a living and grow a profitable business, however, if we are not careful, we can often get caught up with all of the business pressures and let these challenges affect the way we interact with our family business team. We need to make sure we keep in mind that we have a “FAMILY” business and maintaining our relationships and strong family bonds are much more important. After all, we are doing what we do for our family.

Here are 3 blessings that help grow a family business. I think we should keep them in the forefront of our minds when the struggles and challenges are looming;

  1. The Love – There is nothing stronger than the love of family. We need to make sure we keep things in perspective when it comes to running a family business… our loved ones ALWAYS come first. We have a family business to support our family not to over-shadow the value and needs of our family.
  2. The Laughter – Everyone works better when they are having fun and are enjoying their work. Sharing experiences is what helps to strengthen bonds with each other and there isn’t a better way to strengthen a team then to laugh together. Cultivate an atmosphere of hard work and lighthearted laughter… this will go a long way in getting the most out of everyone involved in the family business.
  3. The Legacy – Building a family business that will stand the test of time and can be passed on for generations to come isn’t done by chance. As a family business, everyone in the family needs to understand the big picture… you are creating and shaping a business to establish financial security for your children and grandchildren’s future.

Now, this post only had 3 blessings of a family business but there are so much more. Please share below in the comments section on what blessings inspire you in your family business.
